  • Pre-Thanksgiving Update

As I previously mentioned, I will be away for Thanksgiving starting today. Still, I time before we leave so I figured it was a good time to make a blog post keeping everyone up to date about what is going on.

The second book in the Honor’s Path series is now 22 chapters long, and roughly 90% written, with about 3 or 4 chapters to go (I initially guessed 24 chapters long, so I was pretty close!). Also looking like my estimate of 120,000 words was decent, although I’m starting to suspect I am going to be low.

In any case, I will try to continue working on that while I am away, but experience tells me that any progress will be minimal. Still, worth the attempt. It is looking a lot like I will definitely make my December 15th deadline, although that may also slip slightly if the book runs long. Still, it should be accurate to within a day or two at least.

What does that mean? Well, for one it means I will soon be able to throw myself into editing and I am going to set a goal of getting Book 2 out by December of next year. I will also begin writing Book 3 at some point, and probably also try my hand at a shorter novella as well. That probably sounds absurdly ambitions, and it is, but this year has made me believe that it is something I can handle so long as I apply myself (plus this year I won’t be contending with moving!).

Finally: minor tweaks to the blog layout. New archive widget on the right and slight changes to the header. Nobody else probably cares, but this is my blog so I get to brag if I want. :3

  • Furry Book Month Over!

So to anyone who happened to buy books over Furry Book Month, thank you for your support! Considering that this was our first attempt at something like this, I actually think it went pretty well! At some point I’ll probably briefly discuss some things I think went well in addition to ideas I had for improving Furry Book Month in the future, assuming we do this again sometime.

I mentioned last post that I had bought (and finished reading) the story Legacy. If you want to see what I thought about it, feel free to do so by looking at my Amazon or at Goodreads (they are identical).

In sadder news, despite having planned to take part in NaNoWriMo I will not be doing it this month. I will, however, be doing something like it in the near future once the rough draft to my second book is completed. Think of it as something like a palate cleanser before I dive into editing. My personal “NaNoWriMo” project will probably happen sometime over December/January, depending on when I finish book 2.

Finally, embarrassingly, I need to figure out what I’ll be doing for this month’s newsletter. It ended up sneaking up on me, as it is wont to do. Still, I will work something out for it. Kick it out the door by Monday at the latest.

  • Furry Book Month: October

October 1st has arrived, and with it the very first Furry Book Month! To anyone interested in what this is, my post this Wednesday includes a helpful FAQ that should answer the most common questions.

Until the end of the month, authors and publishers of anthropomorphic fiction will have special offers on books for you to take advantage of! If that interests you, then read on! Unless otherwise indicated, these offers last until the end of October. I have attempted to link* to the relevant store pages where possible to make it easy to take advantage of these offers.

  • Furry Book Month

At long last I am able to talk about the promotional campaign I’ve been somewhat involved with: Furry Book Month. This has been in the works for a while, and now that everything is together I am happy to announce that I will be participating.

On the 1st of October I’ll be making a post with all the offers that will be happening, but until then I figure a brief FAQ will help address what I feel are likely to be the most common questions. So, without further adieu…

  • 4th of July!

    Happy 4th of July.

Know I missed last weeks post, but things have been in flux with me and it looks like I’ll be moving sometime around the 27th of this month. The problem is that a lot of the details haven’t been worked out, so I’m not sure where I’m going to end up exactly or when I can move in. Annoying, but there are some contingency plans that we can work with if necessary.

I haven’t done any writing on my book, which I know is a huge letdown for my goals, but the work I’ve done has been fulfilling. Just writing to enjoy writing, honestly. And I think it has paid off. Also something I really needed considering how down I was getting, and how I was feeling like I was a bit stuck on the book.

Still here, more to come once I know what is going on. Until then!

  • May Plans

Things were pretty hectic last month, and although they are calming down now there is still some churn happening. It shouldn’t be too bad (at least that is my hope), but there is a period of about a week where I’m now sure how much I’ll be able to work since I’ll be going to see my brother’s graduation. That said, here are my overall plans for the month:

  • Unexpected Week Off

So my last blog post talked about how I was having bad dreams, but how there was a slight silver lining with it giving me an idea for a story. At the time I wrote that I had no idea just how much that would consume my time. As I expected it took me away from my book for basically the entire week, but the experience was ultimately very good for me.

  • Bad Dreams: Pros and Cons

So for the past couple days I’ve had some of the worst dreams ever. No surprise, my life is pretty much in flux now and I like stability. Still, it has kept me from getting sleep, and from writing (as much as I want).

There is a silver lining though. I feel like it has given me a wonderful story idea. Well, wonderful isn’t what I would call the story since it gave me nightmares, but it should be a gripping story. Not something I can sell—probably the definition of a trunk story. But it is one I feel like I have to write.

Might even be good for me, although I expect it will take time away from the second Honor’s Path book until I get it out. Luckily it should be merely long-short story length. And I know the entire story, more or less, since it was my dream. May not take too long to bang it out.

  • Starting on a New Book

Been about a month since I talked about what I’m doing, so seems a good time for an update on that end. Never expected it to take this long for me to get back to a normal blog post, but then I guess things sometimes just happen. With how focused I was on getting In Honor’s Shadow out the door perhaps that is to be expected.

I suppose that would make it seem like my table is clear now, but in fact I’ve already built up a brand new to-do list. If anyone’s interested in that sort of thing, here’s what I have planned going forward:
