  • Goodbye 2016, Hello 2017

So with the end of the year it is time for all sorts of reflection. I literally just got back from traveling YESTERDAY (and thankfully am not going to be away from home for months on end), so I haven’t had an opportunity to really update this blog in over a week. That means I should probably look at this webpage again and simply make sure everything is up to date, that my links all work, and just do basic maintenance.

In the meantime, how about I look back and see how I did with last year’s resolutions, and come up with new ones for 2017?

  • Pre-Thanksgiving Update

As I previously mentioned, I will be away for Thanksgiving starting today. Still, I timeĀ before we leave so I figured it was a good time to make a blog post keeping everyone up to date about what is going on.

The second book in the Honor’s Path series is now 22 chapters long, and roughly 90% written, with about 3 or 4 chapters to go (I initially guessed 24 chapters long, so I was pretty close!). Also looking like my estimate of 120,000 words was decent, although I’m starting to suspect I am going to be low.

In any case, I will try to continue working on that while I am away, but experience tells me that any progress will be minimal. Still, worth the attempt. It is looking a lot like I will definitely make my December 15th deadline, although that may also slip slightly if the book runs long. Still, it should be accurate to within a day or two at least.

What does that mean? Well, for one it means I will soon be able to throw myself into editing and I am going to set a goal of getting Book 2 out by December of next year. I will also begin writing Book 3 at some point, and probably also try my hand at a shorter novella as well. That probably sounds absurdly ambitions, and it is, but this year has made me believe that it is something I can handle so long as I apply myself (plus this year I won’t be contending with moving!).

Finally: minor tweaks to the blog layout. New archive widget on the right and slight changes to the header. Nobody else probably cares, but this is my blog so I get to brag if I want. :3

  • 4th of July!

    Happy 4th of July.

Know I missed last weeks post, but things have been in flux with me and it looks like I’ll be moving sometime around the 27th of this month. The problem is that a lot of the details haven’t been worked out, so I’m not sure where I’m going to end up exactly or when I can move in. Annoying, but there are some contingency plans that we can work with if necessary.

I haven’t done any writing on my book, which I know is a huge letdown for my goals, but the work I’ve done has been fulfilling. Just writing to enjoy writing, honestly. And I think it has paid off. Also something I really needed considering how down I was getting, and how I was feeling like I was a bit stuck on the book.

Still here, more to come once I know what is going on. Until then!

  • December Plans

So November went pretty good. I didn’t completely finish everything on my list (I failed to complete the book outline), however I would say I got a good 80-90% done. Found I enjoy having this sort of thing out there, so I’ll be doing that again for this month.

Will be doing my best to keep this pretty light since the holidays are coming up. I don’t actually have anything serious planned for this year, most of my family is going to be busy doing their own thing. The only major event coming up for me is that on the 28th I’ll be heading out to visit my grandmother for about a week.

  • I Love Thanksgiving

Spending this Thanksgiving at my grandparents’ place with my immediate family. I’ve actually been here for about a week. Visits out here are always enjoyable for me, although these days I end up helping them with chores they wouldn’t be able to complete on their own. When I was younger we visited almost every summer so I always remember going out to the beach, or playing in their yard, or visiting various places they’d take us.

Haven’t ever been here over Thanksgiving though, so I’m glad I’ve finally gotten the chance. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because I feel like it is the only one that really focuses on spending time with family. Yes, I get annoyed that the run-up to Christmas that happens during this time, but I think it may actually be a blessing that things work that way because Christmas pulls mostĀ of the commercialism so Thanksgiving is left alone.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who celebrates it, and happy holidays to those who don’t.
