  • Reviewing Has Begun

As of the first of this month I am now reviewing my book. Plan to handle one chapter a day (a pace I know I can easily maintain) so this should be done sometime before the end of the month. Once I reach that point I plan to immediately dive into my first revision. The good news is that so far I don’t have that many things to fix (I think, after the first revision my early beta readers may throw up a host of complaints). You can track my progress on the little widget to the right.

Speaking of, soon I plan to be adding a second project to that widget, one for the novella I’m writing. Currently I am still projecting it to be around 50,000 words, but as I realized my entire first act was wrong I’m no longer completely sure that is the case. We will have to see. If necessary I’ll adjust the estimate once I have a better feel for the project’s scope.

  • Pre-Thanksgiving Update

As I previously mentioned, I will be away for Thanksgiving starting today. Still, I time before we leave so I figured it was a good time to make a blog post keeping everyone up to date about what is going on.

The second book in the Honor’s Path series is now 22 chapters long, and roughly 90% written, with about 3 or 4 chapters to go (I initially guessed 24 chapters long, so I was pretty close!). Also looking like my estimate of 120,000 words was decent, although I’m starting to suspect I am going to be low.

In any case, I will try to continue working on that while I am away, but experience tells me that any progress will be minimal. Still, worth the attempt. It is looking a lot like I will definitely make my December 15th deadline, although that may also slip slightly if the book runs long. Still, it should be accurate to within a day or two at least.

What does that mean? Well, for one it means I will soon be able to throw myself into editing and I am going to set a goal of getting Book 2 out by December of next year. I will also begin writing Book 3 at some point, and probably also try my hand at a shorter novella as well. That probably sounds absurdly ambitions, and it is, but this year has made me believe that it is something I can handle so long as I apply myself (plus this year I won’t be contending with moving!).

Finally: minor tweaks to the blog layout. New archive widget on the right and slight changes to the header. Nobody else probably cares, but this is my blog so I get to brag if I want. :3

  • Late Night Updates

I finished all my writing for tonight, but cannot bring myself to go to bed quite yet. What better time to update my blog than when I am so tired my eyes hurt? Should be an interesting experience for everyone, or at least you. I’m probably about to look really silly.

First thing first: Furry Book Month is now half-finished! If you haven’t already, you should check it out while you still can. Following that little link will take you to all the officially arranged promotions, however I have also spotted some deals on Twitter under #FurryBookMonth that I don’t recall seeing anywhere else.

Second, I am writing again. In fact I am making good progress so far. Book 2 the Honor’s Path series is now 2/3rds written. Really regret the long break I took in working on it. Yes, I was moving, but not writing always feels like an excuse. Really felt like I was back in the saddle tonight, so I’m looking forward to knocking out this rough draft by mid-December if possible.

Third, this blog! I am (trying) to give it a bit of a face lift. Nothing major, just a few little widgets. There is actually an archive widget I would like to try out because it looks way nicer than my current one, however now it is a little broken and labels all months after July incorrectly. Hopefully that will be fixed with the new update. So, if you see changes you like (or ones you absolutely hate) be sure to let me know.

That’s all for now. Seeing as it is now 5am I should probably crawl into bed before I become completely incoherent.

  • Furry Book Month

At long last I am able to talk about the promotional campaign I’ve been somewhat involved with: Furry Book Month. This has been in the works for a while, and now that everything is together I am happy to announce that I will be participating.

    furry-book-month

On the 1st of October I’ll be making a post with all the offers that will be happening, but until then I figure a brief FAQ will help address what I feel are likely to be the most common questions. So, without further adieu…

  • 4th of July!

    Happy 4th of July.

Know I missed last weeks post, but things have been in flux with me and it looks like I’ll be moving sometime around the 27th of this month. The problem is that a lot of the details haven’t been worked out, so I’m not sure where I’m going to end up exactly or when I can move in. Annoying, but there are some contingency plans that we can work with if necessary.

I haven’t done any writing on my book, which I know is a huge letdown for my goals, but the work I’ve done has been fulfilling. Just writing to enjoy writing, honestly. And I think it has paid off. Also something I really needed considering how down I was getting, and how I was feeling like I was a bit stuck on the book.

Still here, more to come once I know what is going on. Until then!

  • Shooting Myself in the Foot

Going to make a prediction that will probably bite me in the rear, but I think the worst of my distractions will be over either this week or next (time will tell). Hopefully that means my writing productivity will be going back up. For now, however, I’m just feeling pretty worn out.

In any case, book progress is continuing. Feeling pretty good about that, even if it is slower than I would like and I have the odd day where I can’t seem to get any writing done. Overall I’m happy with how things are going, though. The book is more or less on track and I feel like I’ve got something of a handle on my life for the time being.

  • Starting on a New Book

Been about a month since I talked about what I’m doing, so seems a good time for an update on that end. Never expected it to take this long for me to get back to a normal blog post, but then I guess things sometimes just happen. With how focused I was on getting In Honor’s Shadow out the door perhaps that is to be expected.

I suppose that would make it seem like my table is clear now, but in fact I’ve already built up a brand new to-do list. If anyone’s interested in that sort of thing, here’s what I have planned going forward:

  • Book Progress

Intended to do something else for this post, only to have a whole bunch of things come together all at once. Since this is my first ever push to publish something the process is completely new to me. I’m constantly alternating between this feeling that things are moving too slowly for me to make the deadline I set, and that things are moving so fast I begin to feel concerned that perhaps I am trying to rush this out the door.

I’m sure a lot of my uncertainty will go away for future books, though experience tells me this “hurry up and wait” sensation is an indicator that a project is nearly finished. Once the book is actually published I’ll probably take some “lesson learned” notes. If it sounds like I’m complaining that isn’t the case at all. Really I’m surprised with how well everything is going, but all of that isn’t nearly enough to overcome the feelings of being lost as I grope my way through this.
